#Cartagena Old City. The Walled City, also known as the Old City, is the historic center of Cartagena de Indias. Its cobblestone streets and colonial-era walls are the remnants of a time characterized by Spanish occupation, extravagantly dressed nobles, and maritime sieges. Its historic plazas evoke romance and its narrow streets burst with colors and charm. The center is surrounded by seven miles of imposing stone walls, complemented by fortifications and bastions, from which you can watch the sunset over the Caribbean Sea. The district is home to such important historical attractions as the Palace of the Inquisition, the Church and Convent of San Pedro, and the statue of Pedro de Heredia, all of which contributed to Cartagena becoming a Colombian National Heritage Site, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
